Subjects

Preschool
Introductory to dance is fun to learn developing self esteem and technical ability through imagery and upbeat music. Using positive uplifting lyrics children can enjoy learning new dance steps, sing a-longs and the craft of performance.

Foundational Level (NEW) ** is a preparational level designed to refine motor skills and teach elements of a syllabus technique with a view to create a love of dance, appreciation of music, confidence, and the ability to follow instruction.

Classical Ballet
Ballet is a style of dance based on precise movement and strong technique.  The Imperial Ballet syllabus is taught at Directions Dance Academy. Ballet is the base of all dances.  It also incorporates elaborate formal gestures, steps and poses, performed with grace and elegance and can be enjoyed at all levels.

Point e (NEW) ** a highly disciplined training with a progression of exercises that builds the strength and flexibility required for classical positions and steps.

Modern
Modern is a theatrical dance form favouring movement from the expression of inner feeling. The Imperial syllabus is also taught and assists students to gain an understanding of physical posture and awareness of the body to be able to produce the dynamic modern style.

Jazz
Jazz dance is based on a musical theatre form of dance. Its underlying rhythms can have you dancing blues, lyrical or quick style jazz.  Jazz is an open free style not based on a syllabus.

Tap
Tap dance is a style that concentrates on footwork and rhythm. A dance step is tapped out audibly with the feet, when the small metal plates on the dancer's shoes touch the hard floor. Tap is an open free style not based on a syllabus.

Body Conditioning
Body conditioning exercise is physical exercise that enhances body alignment and balance, strengthening core muscles and developing flexibility throughout the body.

Fees
Fees are due at the beginning of each term, with all payments finalised by week 3 of each term.  Preferred payment method is by EFT however, cheque or cash are also acceptable.  No credit card facilities are available.  Refunds are not available for classes missed however, classes can be made up.

Discounts
3 lessons 10% discount, 4 or more lessons 15% discount, 3rd sibling or more, extra 20% discount.

Costume Hire Fee
There is a $30.00 costume hire fee per subject, payable in Term 4 for students participating in the end of year performance.  This fee is separate from term fees.  All costumes are made, managed and stored by Directions Dance Academy.

Examinations
Dance examinations are held annually for selected students in the Imperial Ballet & Modern subjects.

Additional Classes
These classes are intended to compliment Saturday classes of the same level and are not to be taken separately.  Students wishing to participate in examinations are encouraged to enroll in these classes.

Punctuality & Preparation
Students are expected to arrive on time to class, prepared and ready with the correct footwear and attire for dance subject.  Upper school students should be warmed up prior to the commencement of class.

Classroom Etiquette
Watching of classes is not permitted in the best interest of the students.  Exceptions are first class for new students and last day of terms 1 & 2 only for all students.  Students are required to only enter class at the commencement of their class time and not during the prior class.  FOOD & DRINK (except water) are not permitted in the classroom. 

Bookings
There is a preferred maximum of 25 students per class, please ring to confirm a place.
